Crypto card currency fees can reach $132 on $6,000 of modeled annual spending

A TokenPost fee model illustrates how foreign-currency charges, conversion fees and small-purchase fees can add up across RedotPay, KAST, UPay and ether.fi Cash cards.

A new fee comparison shows how much currency-related charges can add to crypto card spending, while stressing that the results are modeled scenarios rather than a universal cost ranking.

TokenPost's analysis, published on October 28, applies listed percentage fees to $500 of purchases per month, or $6,000 over a year. It excludes card issuance, subscriptions, funding, ATM withdrawals, blockchain fees, merchant surcharges and cashback, and does not represent a live exchange-rate quote.

For RedotPay, the highest estimate combines the listed 1.2% fee for purchases outside the card currency with the 1% crypto-conversion fee. If both apply to the same purchases, the resulting 2.2% charge equals $132 on the modeled annual spend. The conditional nature of that total is important: the source does not establish that every RedotPay purchase incurs both fees.

KAST Standard has a listed foreign-exchange fee of 0.5% to 1.75% on non-US-dollar spending, equivalent to $30 to $105 in the model. The applicable rate depends on the cardholder's residence, transaction country and card program. Non-USD transactions below $25 can also incur a $0.10 fee, meaning frequent small purchases can add costs beyond the percentage calculation.

The report separates UPay's recharge fees from purchase fees. A physical USD card carries a listed 2% fee on non-USD transactions, which would total $120 if applied to the full annual model. TokenPost cautions that this is not a confirmed cost across all UPay card types.

For ether.fi Cash, the prevailing foreign-exchange base rate for purchases outside US dollars and euros is about 1%, with the Core tier potentially adding 0% to 0.5%. Settlement timing can affect the applied rate. Its zero-markup euro feature remains in beta and applies when merchants charge in euros.

The comparison is best read as an illustration of fee mechanics, not evidence of a fee change. Actual costs depend on the card program, currencies, transaction size and whether several charge types apply to the same purchase.
